It really does encapsulate the essence of the traditional Corfiot way of life. Nestling, hidden in the hillside for some 500 years it is a microcosm of Corfu over the centuries.

Baba's Taverna is offering visitors the opportunity to soak in a little of the atmosphere of the village, and work up an appetite before joining Akis and Maria for a meal.

On Saturday and Sunday evenings, or on Sunday lunchtimes you are invited to enjoy a guided walking tour of the village. Learn a little of the history of the place which has not a few stories to tell, taste the mountain waters that spring up in it's centre, find out more about the traditional activities, from pressing olives to making wine. Don't just wander along the main street, let us take you up through the narrow winding pathways that lace their way between the houses, giving you the opportunity to see what the real Corfu is like.

The walk is only a gentle stroll, though there are a few ups, downs and steps to encounter. You certainly don't have to be super-fit to keep up, though we do suggest you leave your stiletto heels or flipflops behind, and opt for something a little more comfortable.

Our tours, which are given by an English guide, take about an hour and end up at Baba's Taverna, where lunch or dinner will be prepared for you using local organic produce. Here you can stay as long as you like, enjoying your meal languidly, the Greek way!

Cost:

15€ per person, including guided walk, lunch or dinner comprising charcoal cooked pork or chicken, salad, fries and a glass of village wine.

7€ for children under 14, including guided walk, lunch or dinner comprising souvlaki or pita, fries and a soft drink.

Alternatively, enjoy the guided walk and then chose from the full menu at Baba's.

Guided walk only: 5€ per person, 3€ children under 14.

The only thing we do not offer is transport to and from Nymfes. We are happy to give directions if you have a hire car, or alternatively can book a taxi for you at preferential rates.

If you would like further details please contact us, leaving your email address, via the comments box in the first instance. These tours are by arrangement only.

We look forward to meeting you!

HOW TO FIND US

From the north / coast:

Head towards Roda. On the main road as you get to the village you will come to a crossroads with traffic lights. Here you turn inland, away from the sea (left if coming from Acharavi direction and the east, right if travelling from Sidari, to the west).

Continue along this road for about 3km heading for Platonas. Don't be turn off into Sfakera, although if you do, don't worry, continue on this road as it will loop back onto the Platonas road again.

Passing the old Platonas Hotel on your right, and a large orange boat, you will a few hundred metres further along see a supermarket "Ena kai Ena" on your left. Immediately before this is a turning marked Nymfes.

Take this and continue up the winding road through the olive groves (with fabulous views out over Karousades and the sea) until you see a tiny Byzantine chapel on your left. Immediately before this is a steep hill upwards which you should take.

Follow the road for about 1/2km, until it forks. Take the right hand fork that leads down a steep concrete road.

At the bottom of the road you will see the platia (village square), where there are several places to park.

Once parked safely, with your back to the platia, take the right hand road off it into the village. Baba's is approx 100m along, on the right hand side.

From the south/Corfu Town:

If travelling on the inland road continue northwards and head towards Agioi Doulis, Xathates and Platonas.

After travelling through Agioi Doulis, but before reaching Xathates, there are two right hand turns, both in rural locations. The first is to Klimatia and the second to Nymfes - it is clearly marked.

Take the Nymfes turning and wind your way up the road, which takes you through the olive groves. Eventually you will see housing ahead, and a sharp right hand bend in the road. You've arrived in Nymfes!

Continue along this road until you reach the platia (village square). Here there are several placed where you can park.

With your back to the square, take the right hand road off it (that runs parallel to the one you have just driven down). Baba's Taverna is approx 100m along there on the right hand side.
